Can the MMORPG Genre Be Saved or Is It Too Late?

How do we revive the MMORPG genre? Impossible the genre is dead. WoW killed it in it’s infancy by ensuring no one could deviate from the WoW formula lest their game flop hard. Only thing that could revive the genre is if we get full dive VRMMO’s like those in anime and manga, and it will probably still take a long time for the tech to get there.

Honestly, I don’t believe it can be revived. It was just one of those things that was around at the perfect time. Before the net was ruined by normalfags, and when the future of tech looked bright. You had to be there to really get it and see the peak of the golden age.

People are also too negative nowadays. Not in a mean way, but in a degeneratively anti-social kind of way. Nothing is taken seriously and players don’t find the bonds together with other people like they used to to be able to form a community. Even people who play MMOs today want in-out experiences it seems and just tell people to look at the wiki instead of teaching and helping people out with things. I don’t think MMOs can ever be saved until you fix people’s social outlooks.

The magic of it technologically is also kind of gone, too. Back then, MMO worlds were huge and immersive, but the window has kind of shifted and now we have singleplayer games that are absolutely massive and arguably more immersive in other ways. It’s a sad thing to admit, but the time for MMOs has long been past.
